Lord Robert Winston's research has been in the field of gynaecology, and includes research in assisted reproductive technologies such as in vitro fertilisation (IVF) and pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD).

These technologies raise some interesting ethical issues around how we use the technology: what happens to unused embryos; is it ethical to destroy/select embryos; when is it acceptable to use this technology; which genetic conditions should we select against; who can have access to this technology and what are possible future developments in this area?
